BIENVENIDOS A LORETO!
Observe the magnificent Blue Whale on the Sea of Cortez from Loreto B.C.S.
Whale-watching tours from Loreto are a world-class experience. Every Spring, the Loreto National Marine Park hosts the most giant creatures on earth, Blue Whales. On this tour we can also see Fin Whales, Humpbacks, dolphins, mantas, and other wildlife. We provide tours on traditional Mexican pangas with new motors, radios, shade, and dry storage. Boats are permitted to take anywhere from 7-19 passengers
Jan 14th, 2026 Due to a week of strong winds we have been unable to get out and see if we have Blue Whales in the area. We are hoping to get out on Saturday Jan 17th and we'll have a better idea by then. Please note on a "normal" year, the second week of February is when we start to see them regularly.
Use the online form below to book your tour to see the Blue Whales. If you are traveling with a child 5 or under please contact us.
That is the million dollar question. Unfortunately we don’t know their exact schedule (and they certainly do not know ours otherwise they’d be here during Christmas and Spring Break right?) Traditionally the whales are here from the early weeks of February to about the middle of March. However In 2023, 2024, 2025 the Blue Whales were with us from Jan 11th and gone by the first week of March.
January and February can be a windy time of year. Please give yourself a couple of days in town so that if the day you book is windy, we can move you to another. If you have a flight that day, it does not count.
The simple answer to this question is “No”. Before this was a rule, we also did not allow drones on our tours in order to be considerate to everyone else out on the water. Other reasons are as follows. We are near an airport and drones are not allowed within a certain distance of the airport. Many species of birds are nesting in the area during the spring and guess what they hate? Drones. Also if said drone were to run out of battery and land on a whale this would be very upsetting indeed.
Short answer. Not likely. Blue Whales are magnificent amazing creatures that can hold their breath for up to 15 minutes. For many children seeing a whale a couple of times is entertainment enough and they are ready to go on to the next activity. Often times children may get sea sick or want to head back long before everyone else. For this reason we do not recommend children (5 and under) on Whale watching tours. We do highly recommend our tour to Isla Coronados which also has a possibility of seeing Humpback Whales, Bottle Nose Dolphins and for sure Sea Lions. Kids really enjoy the time spent at the white sandy beaches as well.

Food, drinks, necessary equipment. Not included: gratuity to captain or guide, National Marine Park entry fees (250 MXN each) can be purchased in cash at the Marina before your tour.

All of our boats are fully permitted to operate in Mexican waters and the National Marine Park. For the last 11 years, we have acquired our Whale Watching Permits from CONAP. Each boat is equipped with: life jackets, radios, emergency beacons, New 4-stroke motors, professional captain.
Along with seeing the largest creatures on earth, we also may see Fin Whales, Humpbacks, dolphins, mantas and other wildlife on this tour.
No "box lunch" here! Freshly prepared Mexican specialties (ex: Burritos, Empanadas, or Tamales), fresh veggies, and fruit. We can accommodate dietary restrictions and most requests with ample notification.
Each year the whales "settle" in a different part of the park. Sometimes to the North, and sometimes to the South. Some weeks the trips are shorter since the whales are closer, other times the trips are longer as we need to go out farther to find them. Thank you for your understanding.
Tours begin early to take advantage of low light angles (easier to see spouts) and smooth water. Please note the return time is an approximation. If the whales are out farther than we will probably return a little later. Do Not schedule your whale watching tour the same day as an airline flight. Thank you.
It is AMAZING the footage a drone take of whales. Scientists have gained so much information without molesting these beautiful creatures. Who drones do bother are folks on other boats who have come from all over the world to witness these amazing creatures. If you have a drone you MUST advise us and arrange for a private tour ahead of time AND already have permission from the Marine Park. This would be for scientific research or journalism. Not for private purposes.
Check out the additional services and tours that we offer. We have discounts for folks who do multiple days of activities with us as well as group rates.
